My name is Jodie, I am 25 and planning to fly out to Sydney at the end of September 2016.
I have no idea where to start, in terms of where to look at staying. I know I would like to travel up the east coast, but other than that, I don’t even know where to start.
I am hoping to find some guidance on here, and potentially somebody to meet up with out there!?
I hope I can find some people in a similar position to me!?
Hi I can’t give you much guidance as I’m just beginning to look into it but I’m in the same boat.. thinking about possibilities of going around October on a working holiday visa for upto a year- east coast, Sydney Melbourne and just see what happens.. I’m 26 this month and traveling solo terrifies me but think it could also be the best thing ever. Do you want to work over there too? X
So glad to see someone in the same boat!!
It also terrifies me.. But people I know have done it have said it was the best decision they made!
I have only just started looking into it as well. Need to bite the bullet and book flights… Someone told me about a company called grey hound who is a travel company that take you up the east coast as a hop on and hop off basis.
Hostels are the scariest. No idea what I’m looking for hostels!
I’m heading out to Sydney in May, plan on working there for a few months to save up some money and then head up the east coast.
I’m also 25, travelling alone and have no idea hah! I’ll be staying with a friend who’s living in Sydney for a little while but that’s about as far as my plans go at the moment! Happy to keep in touch if you want.. have you made anymore plans?
I am travelling in Australia at the moment. I had no faith in hostels because articles and youtube videos made me think they were dirty and unsafe. I booked into the Wake Up! Sydney central (look it up on hostelworld) and it was safe and clean. They have a travel agency in the hostel and they specialise in things like east coast adventures, fraser island, great barrier reef, surf school etc. So it is actually possible to turn up in Sydney with ideas but nothing booked and book things from here. In some cases it can work out cheaper than booking it all from the UK. Of course the idea of turning up with little booked can be pretty terrifying, so I understand how you feel. I felt the same and I’m an older gapper. If you want it, go for it - it’s going to be an amazing experience.
All the best.
just book into a nice hostel, you will meet lots of people in the same boat as you
i will be in oz at some point, just unsure if oct/nov or jan next year. have some stuff to sort with my house here before i decide anything
I’m also planning to go over in Sept 2016 I’ll be travelling alone and hoping to do the east coast! Nervous!
I’m applying for my visa now- just wondering where everyone else is at or what else I need to do?
Also I’m planning to start from Cairns and travel down to Melbourne x
I’m planning to go over in October 2016, hoping to start in Cairns too and end up Sydney or Melbourne.
I haven’y done my visa yet, is it pretty easy to fill in?
I’ve not started my visa yet- not sure whether to do it online or with an agency ?!
Do you know you need to send your passport off to anyone? I’ve no idea!
Thanks, Nicole x
Hi I’m Ben 27 years old also going around the same time alone first time traveler would like to meet people along they way and have a great time
I’ve done my visa now. I did it online it was really easy. I just filled it out, then they rang me to next day to go over it and take payment. She said it could then take up to 8 weeks to process but I came through the next day!
Hey, very new to this all but nice to know people are in the same boat! Wanting to travel out to aus end of September/beginning of October ☺️ Going on my own aswell. I have family out in Perth so unsure weather to fly there first and then fly over to the east coast somewhere. Not a clue at the moment but up for anything!X
Im also flying out in September/October. I have no real plan but I was thinking somewhere on the East Coast. I’m 22 and travelling alone and coming from Ireland :D The only thing putting me off at the moment is the nerves at going alone so it would be great to make a plan with someone before going!
At least it looks like loads of us are in the same boat
Since so many people are going alone we should really make a Facebook group as its easier to access…and I legit come on this once a month haha
Hey I’m already in Sydney I’ve been here 2 months just working and saving money to travel up the east coast! It would be nice to travel with someone it can be quite scary alone haha x
I’m new to this page and was looking through the posts abit and I saw this one. I was wondering how your plans are at this moment since it’s september. Are you still going or did you change your mind?
