Hostels in Australia

Hostels in Sydney, Melbourne and more...

For pretty much anyone going on a gap year, Australia is the ultimate destination. It’s got amazing weather, incredible beaches, people with the most ridiculous tans and a national obsession with surfing. Really, it’s a wonder we haven’t all packed up and moved there.

While the weather’s brilliant in Oz, it’s not the only thing that draws people going on gap years. There are also the ridiculous wages, even for bar and temp work. Minimum wage in Australia is somewhere in the region of AUD17, so it’s the perfect place to top up your travel funds by getting yourself a working holiday visa.

Now the good stuff, this is why you’re really going. The cities all have amazing night life. There are backpacker hostels everywhere, usually with a bar and games to go with it. There are places like Fraser Island, Magnetic Island, the Whitsunday Islands, Uluru and the Ningaloo Reef where you can swim with whale sharks. Oh, and the Great Barrier Reef. That’s pretty awesome and has some of the best scuba diving in the world. No big deal.
