You may have the universe if I may have Italy.’ – Verdi.
Italy is a bit like that person everyone wanted to be friends with at school. It’s just got that something about it. You can’t quite put your finger on exactly what it is, but everyone knows it’s there and we want it. Maybe it’s the phenomenal food, the beautiful scenery or its incredible history, we can’t be sure, but it’s the sort of place that would top a ‘100 Places to Live/See/Go Before You Die’ list.
We can’t really think of a better place to spend a gap year than Italy. Go to Italy and learn Italian, the most romantic language in the world, explore ancient Roman ruins and then eat the freshest pasta you’ve ever had, or ever will have. On top of that, as if it’s not enough, in Italy you can ski, sail around a volcano (Mount Etna anyone?) and if you’re really lucky drive a Ferrari. Seriously, what more could you possibly want?
Getting around Italy is easy too, the trains are easy to use and even the stations are beautiful, the roads are perfect for a road trip, winding across vineyard strewn hills and sailing the Italian coast is like something out of a painting.
