Backpacking in Andorra on a Gap Year

Countries  »  Andorra

Andorra is a cute little country in southern Europe between Spain and France. And when we say cute, we mean tiny.

Andorra was established after centuries of struggles between the French and the Spanish for control of the region. After passing from France and Spain a number of times it eventually become an independent state in 1993.

The small capital city, Andorra la Vella, can claim to be the highest capital in Europe and is a fascinating but somewhat crowded town located in a deep gorge.

World-class ski resorts at Grandvalira and Vall Nord operate from December to April and they're a cool place to shred the slopes. Summer also offers tourists amazing outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, kayaking and a whole load of others things too.

Caldea, just outside the capital, is fast becoming one of Europe's most visited thermal spa complexes and it's a great place to kick back and chillax. Visitors to Andorra find that two to three days is usually enough to see all of the major attractions.

If you're backpacking and travelling in France or Spain on your gap year then make sure you don't forget to pop into Andorra!
