Gap Years and Backpacking in Belgium

Countries  »  Belgium

Belgium has been dubbed as boring. Nup. We don't buy that at all. Belgium is a cracking little country, and despite its small size its got loads to offer.

Bordered by France, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands, it's the perfect place to situate yourself if you're gallivanting through Europe on your adventures. Keeping closer to home though, the capital of Brussels has got lots in store for you.

The Grote Markt, or Grand Place if you like, is in the centre of Brussels and is one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole of Europe. Take a walk through the side streets, stop off from some moules et frites (that's mussels and chips) and see if you kind find the statue of the boy pissing into the fountain (it does exist).

Belgium is famous for beer and in the Delerium Café there are over 2,000 different beers to choose from. Or maybe you'd like to go a little further afield to the Stella brewery in Leuven. And ladies, it's not all about beer. Antwerp is the diamond capital of the world so take a look at what's on offer, even if you don't buy anything!

One thing's for certain, backpacking and travelling through this region can never be dubbed as 'boring'.
