When incorporating Canada’s nightlife into your travel plans you have to bear in mind that it is the world’s second largest country. Unless you’re there for a long period of time it is unlikely you will get the chance to hit up every city – so to help you out we have created a list of Canada’s best cities for nightlife. Enjoy.
Toronto is first on the list as it's well-known to have the biggest and best nightlife scene in the country. Recently the clubbing scene has moved to West Queen West, Parkdale and Ossington. So if it's clubs you're looking for head that way and follow the crowds for a great night out. Want to go to the early hours of the morning? Then Parkdale is your best bet as it has recently become home to many underground dance clubs.
Alternatively you could hang out in central downtown where you will be in the hub of mainstream music. Many major venues will be visible; but if you are an explorer at heart then search for those ‘hole-in-the-wall’ venues where you may discover a new talent!
As Canada’s capital, Ottawa has something for everyone. From hanging out with friends in bars watching gigs to dancing until the sun comes up, you'll be spoilt for choice.
If you just want to stumble upon a cool place then start at ByWard market in the heart of it all - you will certainly find something to suit your tastes. If you like to know where you’re going then simply walk down Elgin Street where you will find a plethora of bars or explore the area around La Promenade du Portage for some live music.
Ottawa is also famous for its thriving theatre scene so be sure to find time to book a show at National Arts Centre for big acts or Ottawa Little Theatre for something more local.
Vancouver is famous for its nightlife. Many of the old neighbourhoods are bursting with fresh energy and new trendy neighbourhoods are constantly emerging.
If you're dressed to impress then Yaletown is full of beautiful people to mingle with. Don’t be put off by the exclusive clubs and cocktail bars (unless that’s what you want), there are many casual options too. If the sophisticated scene all gets too much then walk to the western-edge of the city where you will find Kitsilano. This former hippy neighbourhood is filled with personality and has funky bars too match – it will put you in the mood for a big night out.
Gastown is Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood. The bars here benefit from the Victorian buildings and cobble stones giving them an atmospheric edge. Stop off here for a quick drink and some nibbles before wandering down to the dance scene in Granville Street. This is the place to end the night – an equivalent to the Vegas strip, the neon lights, live music and university crowd will see you well into the early hours of the morning.
Montreal prides itself on the cutting edge nightlife and with their 3am curfew Montreal is Canada’s party capital. With well over 300 bars and clubs to choose from it's little wonder why thousands are drawn here every year. Everywhere you look you'll see a cool venue meaning that you are guaranteed to find something to suit yourself.
If you feel like drinking the night away under the stars then spend time in Old Montreal where you will find many lounges and chic hangouts, perfect for catching up with friends or recovering from the night before. Just with the girls? Then Mile End is where you will discover the best cocktail bars Montreal has to offer. If clubbing is your thing then the Plateau area is known for its trendy DJ clubs; alternatively the gay village is always a great night out.
