Why go backpacking in Andorra?
Andorra was established after centuries of struggles between the French and the Spanish for control of the region. After passing from France and Spain a number of times it eventually become an independent state in 1993.
The small capital city, Andorra la Vella, can claim to be the highest capital in Europe and is a fascinating but somewhat crowded town located in a deep gorge.
World-class ski resorts at Grandvalira and Vall Nord operate from December to April and they’re a cool place to shred the slopes. Summer also offers tourists amazing outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, kayaking and a whole load of others things too.
Caldea, just outside the capital, is fast becoming one of Europe’s most visited thermal spa complexes and it’s a great place to kick back and chillax. Visitors to Andorra find that two to three days is usually enough to see all of the major attractions.
