Why go backpacking in the Czech Republic?
Backpacking in the Czech Republic means three things: beer, beer, beer. The Czechs love beer. This is Europe, after all! That’s one of the reasons why it’s a fantastic country to visit on a gap year. But there’s more to it than that!
Bordered by Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Austria, The Czech Republic has become a popular destination for backpackers and travellers partly because of its beautifully preserved Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance towns and city centres, and partly because of the abundance of historic chateaux and castles, of which there are over 100 of significance. It’s an unmissable stop on any InterRail adventure.
With Prague as its capital, the Czech Republic boasts one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
About 90% of visitors never venture outside the beautiful historic capital Prague, but for those that do many unique sights and experiences await. The vibrant university city of Olomouc in Moravia has a beautiful historic centre, second in size only to Prague, whilst Cesky Krumlov in southern Bohemia has a UNESCO World Heritage listed town centre famous for its Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance architecture.
