If you're in the midst of planning your gap year in Australia you definitely need to factor in some time on the Gold Coast, more than you were expecting in fact. The festivals and events there make the journey worth it alone, never mind all the fun and adventure you can have on the Gold Coast.

If you’re a bit of a nostalgic hippy type of person you’re going to love the Cooly Rocks On Festival on the Gold Coast. It’s the biggest 50s and 60s nostalgia festival in Oz. Vintage cars, rockabilly, swing and retro market stalls line the stunning beachfront of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads for two weeks. It all ends in street parades, shows and incredible displays parading the streets.
