Music, Dancing, Partying and Blues

All part of the Gold Coast experience

If you're in the midst of planning your gap year in Australia you definitely need to factor in some time on the Gold Coast, more than you were expecting in fact. The festivals and events there make the journey worth it alone, never mind all the fun and adventure you can have on the Gold Coast.

We've scoured the area to find the best events and festivals for backpackers, here goes...

Summafieldayze Festival

One of the premium music festivals on the Gold Coast, Summafieldayze has around 30k visitors up for a good time. Past headlining acts have included Mark Ronson, M.I.A. and Fedde Le Grand.

If you’re a bit of a nostalgic hippy type of person you’re going to love the Cooly Rocks On Festival on the Gold Coast. It’s the biggest 50s and 60s nostalgia festival in Oz. Vintage cars, rockabilly, swing and retro market stalls line the stunning beachfront of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads for two weeks. It all ends in street parades, shows and incredible displays parading the streets.

Blues on Broadbeach

Knowing the Broadbeach location I’m already sold on the Broadbeach Country Music Festival. If you need more persuasion take note of the fact the festival includes an endless array of musical talent including some top headliners every year. Entertainment is offered across a range of stages and tents and you c an even go for a break to surf in between sets, if you like.

Gold Coast Folk Festival

You can enjoy two free days of folk, blues, bluegrass and music workshopping right in the heart of the Hinterland at the Gold Coast Folk Festival. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Mumford and Sons you can take to the mike yourself in the open mic sessions.

And if none of those impress you much, you could always check out the National Championship for Radio Controlled Lasers held at Emerald Lake in July.
