Intern Abroad HQ offers flexible and affordable internships in Guatemala! Placements are based in and around Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, just 15 minutes from the picturesque city of Antigua.
Special Needs / Childcare internship placements in Guatemala are suited for people with a passion for helping others to overcome diversity and disability. Patience, flexibility, and openness are essential. While the nature of this work can be challenging, it may also be deeply rewarding and provide insight into careers related to caring, disability support, therapy and social work.
Various placements may include low income day care centers and special needs organizations, so the tasks vary. However, it’s important to come prepared to help where is needed. Activities can include (but may not be limited to) providing attention and educational support, helping staff in day-to-day chores, food preparation and mealtime, basic teaching, guidance in regard to good nutrition and hygiene, and helping to foster independence and self-esteem.
Intake dates for new interns are typically offered twice a month. The minimum duration requirement forSpecial Needs / Childcare internship placements is a commitment of at least 2 weeks. An understanding of basic Spanish is required. All interns who are not yet intermediate – fluent Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to take Spanish language lessons in addition to their internship program.
