Happy bday, Hayley!
Updated 8 years, 7 months ago
Today is my sister Hayley's 15th birthday, which I'm both happy and sad about as I really wish I could be there to celebrate with her. I had a fantastically long conversation with her and Mum on Skype, though, so I at least got to wish her a happy bday. I hope you had a great day, Haylz! :)
I went on a city tour of Sucre today and it was surprisingly good and informative, taking in the Plaza 25 de Mayo, a park which was modelled on Paris, and the really interesting indigenous textiles museum. It apparently takes one person three months of working eight hours a day to produce a textile, which is understandable as they all looked unbelievably intricate and beautiful. I couldn't get over the fact that most of the textiles on display were hundreds, if not thousands of years old.
After our visit to the orphanage yesterday, we all agreed that we should buy a large canister of milk and lots of fruit for not only the boys' orphanage, but also a girls' orphanage on the other side of the city. We were told that milk was the one thing that the kids really needed, so we thought it was important to give them some when we could quite easily afford it. To see the kids falling on the milk canister in delight was one of the most heart-wrenching moments of my trip so far. Yet again I was reminded of how lucky I am to have access to decent food, and I know now that I will never take that for granted.
