We woke early today, showered and finished the last bit of packing. Then it was time to say goodbye to Emma’s grandparents - it was really sad. We jumped in the car with Rob and Karl plus all of our bags and some stuff that Karl had managed to steal from the beach the day before (just some beach chairs).
When we got to Robina train station we all jumped out of the car while Karl went and found a space. We picked up our tickets and went down to the platform with only a couple of minutes to spare. Rob and Karl said their goodbyes to us on the platform and waited for the train doors to close. It was very sad to say goodbye to them and Rob even had a few tears. We were soon on our way to pick up our hire car from a company called Thrifty. We thought that we were going to be getting a manual but when we got in it we found that it was a automatic (this is the point where we should have gone back in and put Joe as a driver too). We were soon on the road towards Airlie Beach and the WhitSunday islands. The first part of the drive was uneventful until TomTom got us to leave the highway. We ended up going down some back country roads and after doing this for about an hour we ended up on an unpaved road! Every so often there were patches of paved parts and then eventually we were back on paved road. Unfortunatly we still could not drive much faster as we had to keep stopping for cows that were blocking the road. This is where we found the meaning of ‘nosy cow’ as they would all look up from their grass munching to watch us try and weave in-between their mates.
Eventually after about 9 hours of driving we made it to Rockhampton and tried to find somewhere to stay for the night. We ended up going round to almost every motel in the town to try and get the cheapest place, eventually we booked into a room and crashed out for the night
