OK, if you could give one bit of advice to someone who was looking to do your job (or similiar), what would it be...?
If you’re looking to work in the travel industry, then you’ve got to believe in yourself. It’s easier said than done, but if you’ve travelled you would have come across a million and one people who say “I’m going to write a book” or “I’m going to become a travel writer”. Do any of them do it? Rarely. That’s because they don’t have the conviction to follow through with their wishes and desires.
If you really want to work in this industry, perservere. If you believe in yourself, it will happen.
Also, start a blog, now. With a blog you really get to show the world your personality, and that’s almost as important as anything else!
I hope that helps a little bit!
MaccaWhoop whoop! Congrats! You’re going to have such an amazing time!
Can I just come and chill out in the airport? Sounds kinda cool!
Interestingly, a lot of this was covered recently in The Importance of Volunteering.
It specifically goes into some of the assessments that volunteering companies should go through. It even mentions Fair Trade Volunteering Andy!
Lots of really useful info and it’s obviously been researched a lot.
Check it out and let me know what you think.Whatever sacrifices you make, I can assure you it’s all worth it. Every second of it…
I love going to travel meet ups. There are tonnes around the UK and they’re full of like-minded people.
You get to discuss your travel plans, meet some peeps and have a good time. It gives you something to look forward to in the short term and all of a sudden you’re about to go! You might even meet one or two travel buddies to travel with!Have you seen this thread – http://www.gapyear.com/boards/viewthread/61262/#414510
Some really interesting volunteering placements being discussed. Could be worth checking out Leanne!Hi Natalee,
What a killer! I hate bed bugs! Are they bad ones?
If your bag has been steamed then that should cover it – maybe do it again for peace of mind.
As regards to your clothes you’re going to have to wash everything to kill them all. Soz but there’s no other way.
Kill the fuckers…
MaccaHey mate,
The Anne Frank mesume is really interesting, as is the sex museum (probably best not to see them one after the other – that might be a little weird).
Amsterdam is a cool city to kick back and relax in; it’s really cool for wandering around too.
The Flying Pig always gets good reviews as a backpackers hostel. St Christopher’s Inn too.
Check out some on HostelBookers – http://www.hostelbookers.com/results/loc/dd/dst/1039/arr/2013-04-17/ngt/2/ppl/1/#/hos=true/hot=true/apt=true/cam=true/gue=true

Work in the oil industry. Last year I took 50 long haul international flights between January and October.
In fairness, however, it's not as great as it sounds. I see a lot of airports, a lot of taxis, a lot of hotel rooms and a lot of board rooms.
I bet those board rooms are hotter than in the UK though… -
