Arrived in Singapore - I think I’m going to like this travelling

Updated 2 years, 3 months ago

I arrived in Singapore yesterday and it's been crazy ever since. Exploring Singapore has been epic - I walked around for a total of 13 hours yesterday! Choosing to walk most places in the sticky heat really took it out of me. So for today I'm going to take it easy. I was definitely over excited.

Yesterday I went straight out as soon as I dumped my bags. I went to explore Orchard Road (the main shopping street) only to find that no one actually goes there until about 11-12... Walking through the deserted HUGE malls was quite freaky... Like a ghost town (all the shops were still closed). Here's what you can expect from the malls...

I managed to see the Singapore National Museum, Gardens by the Bay and have a spectacular 'flight' on the Singapore Flyer at night.

Overall it was an awesome day. I definitely feel excited about spending more time in Singapore.

It is a strange place, with Little India and Chinatown feeling like 'real' Asia and the rest of the city feeling very Western and advanced. The MRT (underground train) is cheap and efficient to use which makes life here pretty simple. There are still a tonne of fancy cars around though and traffic appears to be pretty congested most of the time. The smells are pretty intense (read gross) at times but mostly it is very clean and tidy. The food is delicious, the buildings are incredible, the hostel is great and everything is going really well for my first day!
