Going up the coast
Updated 8 years, 1 Day ago
From Sydney we hired a car to travel up the coast. We stopped at Newcastle which is nice, Nelson bay and Port Stephens which is very beautiful (and has Ned's pies mm mmm) and Port Maquarie where we visited the Koala hospital. This was just ace. I love Koalas so much. People ring this non government organization when they find a poorly one and they bring them here for treatment. They are in a natural surrounding and cared for until they are well enough to be released they are so so cute!
We visited Coffs Harbour and had some lovely turkish delight ice cream (see how i write about the important things) and Byron Bay for a couple of days as we met some friends there. It is a close nit community here (but they still can't cook fish and chips) and we had a real laugh body boarding (was going to surf but didn't want to be seen to be showing off!) The sea is so cold and very rough. We then went to Brisbane. We drove 1700 km and sometimes don't see anything for miles (including petrol stations when you have nearly ran out!) but do see dead kangaroos by the side of the road with their legs in the air - not nice. We left the Gold coast for a few days to check out the Sunshine coast. Caloundra is lovely but for families really and the Steve Irwin zoo good but sad as he is not there anymore. We also visited the Moreton Bay area and Maroochydore which were pretty. We went back to Brisbane to meet up with some friends we had met on the trip and were staying opposite Chris Brown and Rhianna. We didn't see her but whilst our friends were dining in a not so nice Asian restaurant saw her when she came in for a take away. We stayed in a nice hotel ($135 a night) which was very homely and smelt like Sunday dinners. It's not so cheap staying in hostels as there are 2 of us and prefer the hotels (even though most of them are like something from 20 years ago). We tried a Moreton Bay bug which was delicious and just like lobster (our favourite food for those of you that didn't know) and went to Fortitude Valley for drinks. It's lively here (for Oz) The weather is hotter up North but seems to be changing as we are leaving with rain which will be welcomed as they have drought problems. We have liked our time in Oz. The house prices are so great but probably wouldn't want to live here at this time. They have the same problems as us (not that they would like to admit it) After complaining about our round the world ticket we can do what we like now pretty much so have decided to fly to New Zealand now. The check in times here are a joke -in at 3 out at 9 30 or 10, hope they are better there.
THE DATE SHOULD SAY NOV SORRY
