It’s been a boozey and excitable week to start February in the gapyear.com office. We have a lot of fun here providing you with the answers to all your gap year needs so I thought as the Content and Social Media Manager I thought I'd start letting you in on what goes on behind the scenes in a weekly blog post from little old me.
Every month we like to have a get together at the company’s expense and chew the fat with a few glasses of vino in our grasp. Sore heads all round on Wednesday after Tuesday’s shenanigans.
We had lots to celebrate though. A certain Mr Ben Fogle got involved with our adventure travel themed #gapyearchat on Tuesday night. Our friends at OnTheGo Tours sponsored the night and Greg Lewry won the $150 voucher up for grabs – I’m sure he’ll enjoy spending that on his upcoming trip to the US of A. Next week we’ll be talking love, sex and travel – in honour of Valentine’s Day so get involved from 6-7pm on Tuesday, I'll be there.
Speaking of Valentine’s Day – who hasn’t got a date yet? Our travel editor Macca Sherifi
is free on Valentine’s Day and primed to take one of you lucky ladies (or guys) out for a VIP day in London with dinner and drinks included. To enter just tweet us @gapyeardotcom with your lonely hearts ad like xxx has, or leave it as a comment on the article here: http://bit.ly/X7G5tX
He’.s a great guy – if you like travel, fun, good times and maybe even a spot of rugby, he'll be the one you’ve been waiting for.
I spent the last weekend in Iceland – definitely up there with my top places to go in the world. I ate puffin, squealed as the geysirs exploded, dug our car out of the snow, visited Vik, boiled in the Blue Lagoon, learnt about Iceland’s mystical creatures and saw the Northern Lights from a hot tub.
As a team we’ve also been getting excited about festival season. I know it’s a way off, but we’re planning some fun competitions and content for you gappers this year. If you’ve been to a festival and fancy writing about it for us pitch to us at the Gap Year Writers Academy – we’ve got some great articles on Songkran, EXIT and Rio Carnival already.
Our featured world news this week has seen swearing stewardesses getting fired and animal activists (quite rightly) stepping in to stop the insane practice of kangaroo vs human boxing. Another strange practice, is this Polish guy http://bit.ly/11U8xYb
attempting to dodge train fares by stowing away in the luggage compartment, but did he get away with it?
