Taking the plunge….

Updated 3 years, 2 months ago

I am certainly an adrenaline junkie at heart, so whenever I go away I seek out the most extreme, thrill seeking or just plain stupid activities I can find and add them to my itinerary.

Activities covered include, screaming on rollercoasters, mountain-boarding in Devon, scuba-diving in Tenerife, cliff jumping in Greece, surfing in Australia, zip-wiring in France and taking martial arts classes wherever I can. I think travelling around India deserves a mention of its own as that experience was just plain crazy!

However with all this in mind I think my recent 200ft bungee jump off an old railway bridge in Normandy, France has to be my most extreme adventure so far. This is not because of the activity itself but more the spontaneous way it happened and the loud music that blared in the background that will forever be engraved in my mind.

This ridiculous adventure took place on the afternoon of Saturday 29th June 2013. I had been travelling around Normandy trying out some of the activities on offer and so I was aware I would be visiting the AJ Hackett Adventure Centre; but little did I know I would soon be having a bungee cord tied around my legs and jumping off a 200ft high railway track. Their motto is ‘Everyday do something that makes you feel alive’ and well, I can certainly say I felt more alive than ever after that!

The 200ft jump platform is located in such a perfect position overlooking rolling hills and rivers giving you a lovely view during your jump – if of course you can open your eyes! During the whole weighing and signing up process I was asking myself over and over ‘what are you doing?!’ But I knew I would regret it if I didn’t jump. Before walking along the bridge to the platform – which is a challenge in itself, I was most fearful of the bounce back on the bungee cord. However after the jump I discovered the part that gave me the most buzz was hopping to the edge of the platform with my feet tied together while the instructor yelled instructions at me that I couldn’t hear over the blaring music….

I can honestly say this was the most extreme adventure of my life! I have never had an adrenaline rush like it and I can’t wait to do it again. Bungee jumping gives you such an amazing feeling and for me it is a rush I will seek to experience again.
