Dubrovnik and Split
Well this a while back now, and it seems like cheating to catch up now, but I wanted to leave this diary sort of complete.
I spent 3 nights staying in Dubrovnik, as soon as you arrive in the old town you can see why it’s such a huge tourist draw. A walk along the walls to look out across the town’s red roofs is a much, although the big led tourist groups get in the way a bit. It’s amazing to think a little over 10 years ago many of the buildings had been completely destroyed while the town was held under seige. The town itself is a grid of alleyways and a main high street all free from traffic, there’s a few nice buildings to see. I really liked the cloisters in the Dominican Monastry with it’s orange trees and perfectly cut grass.
On a couple of days I escaped to the island of lokrum just 10 min off the coast. It’s so hot during the middle of the day it’s nice just to escape the crowds and find somewhere to swim and sit about in the sun.
After Dubrovnik I moved onto Split for the night aiming to get out to some of the islands from there the next day.
