How to Travel Light

Haven’t written on here for a while now but I’ve been working and taking weekend holidays in Europe.

There are so many budget airlines taking off and landing all over Europe these days, it’s become so much easier to see more of the world.

But, travelling by plane can still feel like hard work and packing can end up being damn expensive too, so you’ve got to take steps to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Travel Light

The key for easy plane travel is to go with hand luggage only. Of course, it seems that the hand luggage allowance is always getting smaller, but all you need to do is make sure your bag conforms to the dimensions you’re allowed, and then pick the items that you put in there really carefully.

Choose clothing that is suitable for visiting museums and going out at night. Find shoes that will suit all occasions so you only take a maximum of one pair on your feet and one pair in your bag. Keep toiletries to an absolute minimum and remember that all important clear plastic bag to keep them in so you breeze through the security checks. Keep your pockets empty for the same reason!

As for gadgets, think what you can live without while you’re away. Does your smartphone also take good photos for example? Do you really need a hairdryer? Most hotels will supply them if you ask.

Travel Time

Find flight times that mean you don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to get to the airport, or worse still, travel to the airport the night before. It just makes it all feel like hassle rather than pleasure. Also think about the time you’re going to arrive in a destination – will you be able to travel to your hotel easily if you arrive in the middle of the night?

Of course, you can’t always have your cake and eat it. Sometimes you’ll have to put up with an early start – or late arrival. But there are always different options, especially as there are so many airlines operating from so many airports. Do your research before you make your bookings, plan ahead what you’re going to take and take a load off when you travel light.
