Wellington To Queenstown, South Island New Zealand
Hello from Christchurch its my final day in New Zealand and I’m seriously hungover!! Its been a while since Ive updated my diary so probably going to be another big entry!!
I left Wellington i think 10 days ago now on the Inter islander ferry, which took 3 hours to reach Picton on the South Island. On the way into Picton, we traveled through Marlborough sounds, awesome scenery, views of mountains, forests, lakes, seas the lot, difficult to describe how impressive it was.
The next few nights were spent in Nelson, supposedly the sunniest place in NZ, well not when I was there, thats for sure!! We went Sea Kayaking to Abel Tasman National Park and my god did it rain, I swear at one stage we were kayaking like mad but going backwards!!! Still it was excellent fun if bloody freezing!!
Nelson has a pretty good night life, the two drunken nights we were there many a pint & shooter were consumed with Trish, Lewis, Paul, Eve, Sam and so many others and as you read on you might start notice a theme!!
The following day we headed to Westport before doing a couple of bush walks visiting a number off waterfalls and lakes. Westport isn’t a particularly big and exciting place but the hostel was pretty nice and everyone had a nice chilled out night watching The Pirates off the Caribbean before a very big night tomorrow!!
The next day everyone was looking forward too. As we went to Mahinapua, there is nothing in Mahinapua except a damm nice lake, beach and a Hotel, affectionately nicknamed ‘The Poo Pub’!! Run by a mad old guy called Les who must be in his 70’s and is 3ft tall but my god was he funny a pretty darn legend really !! Every night is a fancy dress night, so everyone dresses up to a particular theme our theme being “Pimps, Prostitutes and Princess” And guess what I went as…………
Yep you guessed it right me and Lewis went as Prostitutes and if I do say so myself we looked damm good!!! If you can picture the scene, a gold wig, bright pink boob tube, a seriously short skirt made from a bin liner, knee high thights, awfully put on make up and a matching pink handbag hahah we looked a right pair. Everyone dressed up on our bus some more outrageously than others but a wicked night was had by everyone. I’ll try and upload some pictures soon.
Next stop was Franz Josef but before getting there we stopped off for either gold panning or paint ball and seeing as I haven’t being paint balling in ages it was the right choice and a wicked way to blow away the cobwebs from the night before, apart from getting shot in the neck by my own team mate!!
The only reason to stop at Franz Josef is for the Glacier and what I saw off it was seriously impressive but due to it raining pretty much all the time we were there for 2 days we didn’t get to go up which I’m gutted about as thats one off the main things I wanted to do in NZ. Oh well gives me an excuse to come back now 😀
After Franz Josef off to Wanka a couple off nights here and possibly the best scenery Ive seen in NZ, it was totally fantastic and the walk up Mount Iron for a picnic was breathing taking. Lots off good bars here too so more wicked drinking nights finishing off with tea ‘n’ toast again with Eve, Paul, Lewis, Sam etc.
The next day was ace, it started off with a visit to Puzzling World – only cost $8 to get in a total bargain! Lots of illusions, and rooms which made you either very tall or very short depending where you stand so much fun especially the snooker table where the ball rolled upwards, still dont understand how that worked!! Also had fairly small maze which said took an hour to 1.5 which no one believed would take that long, but we were so wrong!! But luckily made it out alive!!
Next stop was Queenstown the party and adventure capital of NZ and it certainly lives up to its reputation!! I only spent a couple of nights here could really done with more but I don’t think my liver or bank balance would off been able to cope!!
While in Queenstown, I went to Milford Sound. Its in the Fiordland National Park, one off the biggest national parks and takes four hours to get there over the most dangerous road in the world apparently due to avalanches!! Didnt bother me thou as I was asleep trying to recover from the night before!!
Once we got there we went on a cruise of Milford Sound with free cups of tea!!! Always a bonus when you have a a headache As the cruise started, within a few minutes, Dolphins were swimming beside, blooming big they were too but didn’t see any sharks. At Milford they also have an underwater observatory 9 meteres below the water which was fantastic saw so much marine life. The scenery and views again were breathtaking with waterfalls and mountains everywhere and the sun came out as well which always helped. An excellent day well worth the extra money.
Anyway Ive probably missed out loads but NZ has been amazing, even though the weather hasn’t been great Ive had a fantastic time and met some superb people.
Right I’m off to Melbourne tomorrow and just booked a ticket to a massive dance festival in Sydney cant wait for that.
Speak to you all soon.
