Currently in the final stages of the countdown to my big adventure – Australian Working Holiday!! Being my first solo travels (apart from a week in Amsterdam) I am, as most first time travellers feel, EXCITED! Saying that, I am nervous, anxious, worried, curious, you name it – I feel it.
I am 4 weeks out from what will hopefully be the journey of a life time and it has been a long time coming. I have been planning this for almost 2 years, starting with the initial interest of actually going on a WHV. I have been through so many websites, forums, books, maps and that was only the first couple of weeks!
I finally plucked up the courage to apply for my Visa last October which was a very simple process – I applied for the visa on the Friday night and by the Sunday morning I had been approved for it. Very fast! Once I had the first box ticked I then moved onto planning a route, finding places that I wanted to go and then choosing a city to fly into. The route was easy enough to figure out – East Coast Journey – However I then delved further into where I really wanted to go and found more and more places which I hope I can see! Then it came down to where to fly into, I decided on Sydney due to it popularity and it is also a good place to start off travelling the coast.
Then came what I think was one of the hardest things, telling my work who put me through my apprenticeship that I am leaving them to go travelling. I was absolutely dreading it right up until I actually told them! I managed to find some balls and told them one afternoon and I wasn’t expecting the reaction I got – They were disappointed that I was losing but they were super supportive and dead intrigued into what my plans were – I was amazed!
The final big box to tick was booking the flights – EASY! The night I told my work I was leaving I went home and booked a 1 way ticked to Sydney from Glasgow (stopping off at Dublin and Abu Dhabi) – Done!
Now that I am on the final stretch I am just sorting small things out and saying my ‘See yous laters’ to all my friends and family.
Super excited to go away and meet new, interesting people and experience things that I have never imagined before!!
