I still pop by on a wet and grey lunch break. Think most have moved on now though07/06/2016 at 11:39 #496306
Sounds good Oliver, I hope it all works out for you. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
If I could make one suggestion – don’t book any tours apart from the SE Asia one before leaving home. I know you’re worried about travelling now but you may find when you get out there that it’s not as bad as you imagined and you’d like to go alone for a while. Oz and NZ in particular are very, very, very backpacker friendly. And if you decide you still want to do them on a tour, you can always book it later.

If you are thinking of doing a RTW trip, then you may want to pop into a travel agent to get advice on buying the ticket. If you are happy to just book tickets as you go, then I’d recommend doing it online. There is so much information on the internet these days, that you don’t need a travel agent for much.
Other than that, start trawling through the country pages / articles on here to see where you want to go and borrow some guide books from the library to help.
I would then begin by writing a long list of countries/places you want to visit along with an approximate of how long you’d spend in each place. Then try and put them in a logical order eg East to West. You may need to remove places from the list due to time constraints but slowly you’ll start to see a plan come together.06/21/2016 at 11:31 #496174
Depends on what you want to do and what time of year it will be, I guess. Be a sun worshipper and have lots of beach time – Oz in summer. Hit the mountains and do winter sports – Canada in winter.06/20/2016 at 11:26 #496166
How long have you got and what’s your budget? Any reason why you can’t do both?!06/15/2016 at 11:25 #496142
I’ve not been myself, but I’ve heard Florence is a good arty place.06/08/2016 at 11:40 #496105
Two weeks will be very rushed indeed but can be achieved if you’re happy to fly between places rather than catch buses.
I’d spend time in Hanoi/Halong Bay, Hue, Dalat and HCMC. Depending on what time of year you go I would also visit Nha Trang for the beach, but not if it’s rainy season.
Other potential places to visit, but would probably meaning excluding one of the above, include Sapa, Hoi An, Mui Ne or Mekong Delta.06/08/2016 at 11:31 #496104
I plumped for Langkawi in the end and it was fine for the weekend. Early flight out on the Sat morning, late flight back on the Sun night.
Borneo was too far for that short space of time and actually just got back from two weeks there at the end of May, which still wasn’t really long enough!04/22/2016 at 11:35 #495851sarahm1985 wrote:
Im a lone female in my thirties thinking of doing the same thing. How safe is it for a lone female to just jump ship and go?
I’ve done both my RTW trips as a solo female and never had any problems. Common sense is vital but basically the world is actually the majority of people in this world are decent human beings!04/18/2016 at 12:15 #495836
I don’t know about trains, but I took a bus along this route and it only took a few hours. There’s an express bus which goes along the highway and is quicker, or a slower bus that is more on the back roads and stops by Plitvice NP and is more picturesque.
