I left Nazca this morning on a bus bound for Pisco, my penultimate stop on this trip, and it’s been a surprisingly nice day! We stopped for lunch in a little oasis called Ica, where we found a restaurant with a pool and hammocks out the back! 🙂 Tim and I decided to give the restaurant a miss as it was quite expensive, and were rewarded when we found a cool little place around the corner selling veggie burgers. Needless to say I jumped at the chance of having a decent veggie meal! Afterwards we went back to the restaurant and jumped into the hammocks to relax in the baking hot sun. It was then that I realised I had forgotten to put sun cream on my feet, which were bare in my dolly shoes. So now I have feet that look like beetroot! 😯 Anyway, it was my first time lounging around in a hammock and I really enjoyed it – it’s so relaxing. Maybe I should invest in one for my back garden… not that I would get much use out of it with the weather we get back home!
We arrived at our hostel just as it was getting dark, and I was delighted to find that it lay right on the coast. I ran out onto the hostel’s back patio and spent some time admiring the ocean, somewhat incredulous that I had actually reached the Pacific after starting my trip on the Atlantic coast! Something about that really made me feel like I had reached the end of my trip, that I really had travelled all the way across South America and I would be going home in two days. It was a scary feeling but it made me feel content in a way I’ve never experienced before.
