Off to Borneo!

So I am off into the jungle for a fundraising trip for the Blue Cross, so far raised £2800 of my £3000 goal. Here’s what I have planned! Leaving tomorrow which is a bit daunting, I really hope I have everything I need!

Day 1- Fly from London to Kota Kinabalu (via Singapore)
Day 2- Arrive in Kota Kinabalu
Day 3- Start trek from Kota Belud, trekking through villages, farms and dense jungle. Trek for 5-6 hours before setting up camp in the village hall in Kaung.
Day 4- Continue jungle trek, walk for 6 hours learning about survival e.t.c. On arrival at riverside camp we will help construct shelters and platforms. After dinner, night trek through the jungle to try and see some different wildlife.
Day 5- Continue trekking- learning to make animal traps and utensils.
Day 6- Last day of trekking, around the edge of Mount Kinabalu (following the track dating from Sir Hugh Low’s exploration!). Trek for 6 hours before reaching Kiau and setting up camp in the village church. Spend evening with the locals.
Day 7- Travel to Sukau and arrive at homestay for project briefing
Day 8- Travel to the orangutan study site, assisting researchers with observation of the wild orangutans behaviour, then a visit to the phenology site where we will help collect saplings to help with conservation work.
Day 9- Assist with line transect to could orangutan nests!! Also we will plant the saplings we collected in the nursery. Then a night cruise on the river.
Day 10- Tree planting in the reforestation site then farewell dinner.
Day 11- Visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation site, then travel on the Sandakan to fly to Kota Kinabalu. Then fly back home via Singapore.
