Perth voted ‘Best New Travel Destination of the Year’
Readers of China Travel Weekly have voted Perth as the ‘Best New Travel Destination of the Year’.
The award attracted more than 4.2 million votes by Chinese readers. Surprisingly, Perth was battling Dubai for the number one position.
Felicia Mariani, ATEC managing director, said: “Tourism WA and the Western Australian Government have been working hard to secure a foothold in this growing market and this award recognises this effort.”
Ms Mariani said China has the capacity to provide the Australian tourism industry with a growing market and it was important to develop a capacity to move with its demands.
“Australia has significant advantages over other destinations in that we have been an approved destination for more than a decade and we can offer Chinese travellers a nearby, short-haul ‘western’ experience, but destinations such as Canada and the US are right on our tail.
“With the US planning to make a $50 million push for the China market we must keep ahead of the game and continue to grow and refine our tourism products and leverage our advantages such as our natural environment and Indigenous experiences.
Western Australia’s (WA’s) Tourism Minister, Kim Hames, said: “The award reflects a growing awareness in China of the many extraordinary destinations and experiences this state has to offer.
“The award’s fantastic news for WA’s tourism industry, especially with China Southern Airlines’ direct flights between Perth and China due to start in November.”
