New backpacker card for SEA
International Backpacker have launched a new backpacker card for South East Asia, the first company to do so.
It’s the first of its kind and we’re exclusively giving you a sneak peak. As you know, backpacking around South East Asia is one of the most popular destinations for a gap year, yet there has never been a discount card as seen in other countries such as Australia and New Zealand.
International Backpacker are the first company to produce a discount card for Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, offering huge savings while backpacking around the ‘banana pancake trail’. There’s even an introductory offer until the 1st March, so make sure you get in early for your gap year.
The card was created by Rachel Franklin and Sam Korn, two gappers who noticed there wasn’t a discount card for South East Asia.
Rachel said: "Travelling around South East Asia both of us were very curious about this wonderful place and the fantastic people we were meeting. We enjoyed talking to the owners of businesses and finding out how they had set up and how successful they had become. These businesses ranged from small restaurants and hostels, where many owners support extended families on very low incomes, to large tour and diving operators. We soon realised that there was something missing, not only for backpackers, but also for the businesses who were trying to attract travellers.
"We found that both backpacker and businesses didn't have a cost effective way of reaching one another. We returned home with some amazing contacts and the idea to build a website offering businesses a chance to promote themselves free to backpackers in return for the offer of discounts to our card holders who would otherwise not be aware of these great places."
Although haggling for most things is part of daily life all over Asia the International Backpacker card gives discounts on what backpackers can’t barter for. By saving up to 30% on the basics like food, accommodation and tours, the International Backpacker discount card frees up backpackers budgets for fun activities like scuba diving and a few extra bottles of Chang.
You can save money on taking your Open Water PADI course on Koh Phi Phi, on a Vespa tour of Ho Chi Minh City and on a number of guesthouses and hostels all over South East Asia, so make sure you don’t miss out!
