Brits vote Sydney as their favourite city
Australia's largest city still lures backpackers and travellers
As we all know, backpacking and travelling in Australia is almost a rite of passage for us gappers and it's been the number one gap year destination for over 20 years. Well, it seems as if us Brits are still in love with the country after Sydney was recently voted as our favourite city ahead of other popular hot spots such as New York and Paris.
NSW Tourism Minister George Souris said Sydney was voted the world's favourite overseas city in the 15th annual Conde Nast Traveller, UK Readers Choice Awards held in London.
“Winning this latest award demonstrates Sydney's continuing appeal to visitors across the UK,” Souris said in a statement.
The UK is one of NSW's largest international tourism markets, worth more than AU$557 million to the state economy, he said.
NSW annually receives 313,600 UK visitors, the third largest group behind Chinese and New Zealand tourists.
