World’s worst tourists revealed

What not to do on your gap year

Some people just shouldn’t be given a passport. This motley crew have been ousted as the world’s worst tourists, thanks to their stupid actions abroad.

Exhibit A: Ding Jinhao, a teenager from China, decided to etch 'Ding Jinhao was here' on a 3,000-year-old temple in Luxor, Egypt. This isn’t a cheapo desk at school y’know Ding. His mother had to apologise for his behaviour in the Nanjing paper, Modern Express: 'We want to apologise to the Egyptian people and to people who have paid attention to this case across China.' No information as yet as to why he wasn’t the one saying sorry.

Over in Florence, Italy, last week it wasn’t just the youngsters causing havoc, but someone old enough to know better. Patrick Broderick, 56, and a surgeon from Connecticut, snapped the finger off a 600-year-old Virgin Mary statue while trying to measure it. For some reason he’d put his finger against the little one on the statue wanting to compare the size when the incident occurred. Now, I’ve been to Florence, I’ve even been to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo where it happened, and I know there are a lot of naked statues in there so to be honest, I’m glad it’s just a finger he felt the need to measure, but that’s my opinion, back to the news story.

Angry Timothy Verdon, the museum's head, and a fellow American said: 'In a globalised world like ours, the fundamental rules for visiting a museum have been forgotten, that is, "Do not touch the works."' Remember this gappers.

What do you do if you think you’ve found a rare creature? Fry it up and sprinkle it with lemon, of course (please don’t take me literally). I feel the need to say that because this American tourist (noticing a trend), Labros Hydras, was holidaying in Greece when he came across a rare hexapus. So rare in fact, it was only the second one to be discovered. It looked, and I’m guessing tasted, just like an octopus, but only had six tentacles.

Mr Hydras said: ‘We go to Greece every year and when we catch an octopus, we do the same thing so we just did not think about it.

'I wanted to find out more, but there was no internet where we were. I then called my friend who is a biologist and he told me it was true and I was horrified.'

He failed to leave out the fact that in between the internet and calling his friend, he did this… which he even burnt FFS.

And finally for today, but sadly not forever, there was the famous case of the Chinese guys who decided to catch this dying dolphin and manhandle it for their photos. The dolphin had been hit by a boat and washed ashore in the Hainan province of China. Instead of trying to seek help for the poor flipper, these ‘men’ decided to take some souvenir pics no doubt entitled: ‘Me and the lads being douchebags with a dying dolphin #YOLO’.

The dolphin ended up perishing from 'excessive bleeding' according to the Shanghai Daily, and the men ended up being hated by all of China, and dolphin lovers everywhere. Idiots.
