Skeleton on trip of an after-lifetime
Deciding what to pack for your gap year is tricky, but you can probably make it easier on yourself by vetoing various items that aren’t completely necessary.
But some people just like to be different. The travel writer and comedian Tony Hawks famously hitchhiked around Ireland with a fridge. It was actually quite funny in the end. And now Susan Weese, from Albuquerque in New Mexico, is travelling the world with a life-size skeleton called Samantha.
So far Susan and her bony companion have scaled the Empire State Building in New York, cruised the canals of Venice in a gondola and climbed the Eiffel Tower in Paris. We fibula you not.
And rather than ribbing her, Susan’s friends have been very supportive, donating various gifts, including bits of clothing.
Susan said: “Sam is 42lbs and if I carry her in my arms I get bruises everywhere. She flies oversized, which is hard getting through airports. She got held up by the Department of Agriculture in Newark.”
Hopefully the security guy had the presence of mind to say: “I’ve got some bones to pick with you.”
