Ryanair to introduce super cheap transatlantic flights
Ryanair chief Michael O’Leary has announced plans to introduce flights from Europe to the USA for £8.20.
To clarify, that decimal point between the 8 and 2 is not a typo.
The airline intends to provide the super cheap transatlantic fares once it has bought enough long haul aircraft to support the initiative, something which could take several years.
The flights would depart from up to 14 major European cities (not including Dublin) to up to 14 major US destinations, including Boston and New York.
O’Leary has conceded: “Not every seat will be [£8.20] of course, there will also need to be a very high number of business or premium seats.”
And this being Ryanair, all is not as clear cut as it first seems.
Passengers would be faced with a number of ‘hidden’ costs, including charges for luggage and food, and once these are combined with airport taxes the actual price would be more in the region of £150.
Still not bad though.
