Gapyear.com has relaunched
Booking and finding out about gap years has just become easier than ever before with the relaunch of gapyear.com.
The brand new, sparkly, sexy website you see before you marks a new era in the online home for backpackers.
After months of listening to feedback from you, the users, and a LOT of behind the scenes work, the team is today delighted to reveal what the future looks like for the website.
A major focus has been improving the look and feel of the site. It’s been transformed from slightly dated and cluttered to fresh and simple, making it easier on the eye and essentially a more enjoyable place to be.
Another major task has been improving the usability of the site. It’s easy to forget sometimes that gapyear.com is 15 years old, which in Internet years places its birth sometime around the Jurassic period. It’s fair to say that navigating the website had become tricky to say the least, but all that’s changed now with a complete redesign of the site map.
Booking your travels – be it a volunteering placement in Brazil, a party bus around New Zealand, or the next one way ticket to Thailand – has been made ultra-simple with the introduction of the top drop-down menu on the homepage. You simply select what you want to do, and what you’re interested in, and we’ll do the rest.
The team has also put a lot of work into rebuilding the community side of the site. The blogs and photo galleries have been completely redesigned, making them worthy homes for the excellent content you guys place within them.
If you’d like a more in depth view of the redesign, along with some historical context, take a look at the COO Cormac Scanlan's article: Rebranding and Redesigning Our Site.
