Which Country Drinks the Most?

New report from the World Health Organisation

Worldwide the average person (15+) drinks less than half an ounce of pure alcohol each day. But, if we take into account that a lot of people, for whatever reason – age, religion, birthright – don’t actually drink anything, there’s got to be a few people out there who are bringing up the average for the rest of us.

Is it you?

According to a new report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) the top 5 destinations with the highest alcohol consumption per capita are Canada, Russia, South Africa, Australia and the UK. The lowest consumption generally belonged to mostly Muslim countries for who alcohol is banned, or at least strictly controlled.

“More needs to be done to protect populations from the negative health consequences of alcohol consumption,” Dr. Oleg Chestnov, WHO Assistant Director-General for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, said in an announcement that accompanied the report. “The report clearly shows that there is no room for complacency when it comes to reducing the harmful use of alcohol.”

Alcohol can be fun, we all know that, so long as you keep your wits about you and know who you are. Don't be tomorrow's drunken viral video!
