Canadian man finds travel buddy with same name & nationality as ex

A Canadian man who caught the internet’s attention with his request for a travel buddy to join him for free on a prepaid round the world trip has found a match.

The catch was that the person would need a Canadian passport and have the same name as his ex-girlfriend – Elizabeth Gallagher – who was originally due to join him on the three week adventure in Italy, France, Czech Republic, India and Thailand.

After receiving an overwhelming amount of interest – including from people offering to change their names – Jordan Axani, the 28-year-old who posted the plea, has confirmed he has chosen one Elizabeth Quinn Gallagher, 23, from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, to join him.

This Gallagher, who is in a long term relationship, has admitted her boyfriend isn’t overjoyed at the idea but has been commendably supportive.

“He understands that I’ve always wanted to travel, so while he’s not happy I’m taking off for nearly a month at Christmas with a random guy, he’s smiling through it.”

The soon to be travelling duo are said to have spoken on the phone for hours before agreeing to go away together.

Gallagher added: “It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning but now that I talked to him it’s less creepy and more awesome.”

Axani, true to his initial request, confirmed he has no romantic ambitions, stating: “It’s strictly a platonic trip. It’s going to be great. Do I think we’ll become friends? Sure.”

The pair will jet off from New York City on December 21 and continue to Milan, Prague, Paris, Bangkok and New Delhi, before arriving back in Toronto on January 12.

Riding on the wave of worldwide interest in the story, Axani has set up a charity called A Ticket Forward, which helps people to travel who would not otherwise have had the financial means to do so.
