Teaching Placements in Vietnam
Volunteer in Vietnam
As a country, Vietnam offers an astounding range of cultural and geographical landscapes. From beautiful coastlines, breath-taking mountains and diverse national parks to bustling cities and sites of rich historical heritage, Vietnam is truly a joy to spend any amount of time in. Its people are renowned for their energy, resilience and openness, and past volunteers have often commented on how appreciated they felt within their host communities. Like many Asian countries, Vietnam is also developing at a vertiginous rate, which is where Lattitude volunteers step in. For many, developing a strong command of the English language means securing a better future for themselves and their families. It is for this reason that our volunteers and the language skills they teach are so valuable to the Vietnamese communities they work with.
Our Vietnamese placements are mostly situated in the vibrant capital of Hanoi in the North of the country, but we also offer several opportunities in the southern city of Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon). Both locations are ideal for exploring the surrounding country as well as neighbouring countries China, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
Accommodation and Food
Accommodation is provided by your host placement, either on campus within the institution or in a nearby apartment. Similarly, when food is not supplied directly by the host placement, volunteers receive a monthly self-catering allowance, usually ranging between 2,000,000 and 3,500,000 VND. Volunteers may also receive additional financial support for other expenses relating to their placements. Volunteer accommodation varies, but you will have a bathroom and a kitchen. You can also expect to share a flat with a fellow volunteer. With regards to food, fresh local produce is cheap, varied and readily available, while imported groceries such as canned drinks can be more expensive. For placements in day schools, lunches can be purchased at the institutions’ canteens, while in the evenings and at weekends volunteers are usually responsible for cooking for
