Conservation & Environment in Malawi
Volunteer placements in Malawi
Malawi is often known as the ‘warm heart of Africa’. It is one of the most beautiful countries in Africa and the people are warm and friendly. They will make sure that you soon feel at home and are a valued part of the community. It is also a desperately poor country and lacks many of the basic resources which we take for granted. This means that your presence and hard work will be valued and you really can make a difference to people’s lives.
Life in the main urban areas is changing fast and is becoming quite cosmopolitan and liberal. However, over 80% of the population live in rural areas. This is where our placements are located and here, behaviour and expectations are still very traditional.
Conservation placements offer the volunteer a chance to get really stuck in with helping with the environment in areas throughout Malawi. Placements offer a wide variety of activities regarding environment conservation and sustainability.

Lattitude Global Volunteering is a youth development charity that specialises in overseas volunteering placements. Since 1972, Lattitude Global Volunteering has sent over 40,000 young people to volunteer in over 17 countries around the world, where they’ve had the opportunity to work in areas as diverse as conservation, medical work, outdoor sports, community projects and teaching and for 3 to 12 months.
We help young people from developed and developing countries to volunteer and make sure our placements deliver sustainable value for the children, communities and institutions that volunteers work in. We match every volunteer to a placement that really needs their skills and where they can have the most benefit as part of a larger, ongoing programme. No qualifications or previous experience are required.
