Orangutans,Trekking & Philippines

Borneo is the jewel of Malaysia, an island steeped in history. Whether it’s the charming and laid back town of Kota Kinabalu or the tropical islands offering world renowned diving and talcum white beaches or last, but certainly not least, its rainforest, home to the adorable orangutans. This island has it all.

We have added an additional phase in the Philippines - way off the beaten track and accessible only to the intrepid traveller - it's looking good.

A Typical 10 week Itinerary includes all of the following but it is possible to go for as little as 2 weeks taking in the projects/places that interest you.

You‘ll arrive in Kuching - an amazing cosmopolitan capital with old colonial quarters and trendy cafes along the shores of the Sarawak River. Time to catch your breath, explore and prepare for weeks ahead.

Sarawak Jungle
A short road trip to take you deep into the Sarawak jungle - a part of the world seen by few outside visitors. Here you'll live in the heart of a local community helping to renovate community buildings and teach English.

Gunung Mulu National Park
An amazing World Heritage site, meander through the jungle and caves by river boat or high up on a canopy skywalk.

WEEK 3 - 6:  Fly to SABAH

Plantation School, Borneo Child Aid
Sabah - once covered in towering tropical rainforest, now covered in oil palm plantations. Here you will help teach at the Plantation Village School, set up for kids not entitled to state education.

Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary
Next up, the world famous orangutan rehabilitation centre where you’ll have time to visit the orangutans at feed time, before nipping off for a jungle safari in the wildlife reserve of Dermakot.

Rainforest Trek
Time to learn basic survival skills and to test your resilience with a five-day Bear Grills style camp and trek.

Lupa Masa Beach, Kudat
Kudat, the new ‘must see’ place in Sabah, with empty beaches and perfect snorkelling waters. Help with beach clean up’s and making local handcrafts followed by sundowners on the hilltops.

WEEK 7 - 10: Fly to the PHILIPPINES

You’ll fly into Legazpi City, via the capital of Manila, to reach the small town of Bulusan, dominated by its sleeping volcano. Here you’ll live with local families amoungst virgin rainforest to help NGO’s with reforestation and development projects.

Summit Bulusan Volcano
A great physical challenge to summit Bulusan itself, assisted with the help of local guides to help transport everything you need – food, camping equipment etc. for a 3 day and 2 night adventure snaking through the rainforest to reach the lunar landscape at the top.

Ticao Island
This island community is so far from the mainland, they have to survive on what the land and ocean can provide. Here you'll help create a waste management system and teach English.

Legazpi Island
Travel back to Legazpi Island, en route with a Legazpi City Tour to visit the Cagsawa Ruins, Napa Abaca Factory, Daraga Church, Lignon Hill, and Legazpi Boulevard.
