African Insight (Northbound)
DAY 1 - 2 Johannedburg - Kruger National Park, Hazyview
Our tour begins in Johannesburg, the ‘City of Gold’ and one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the African continent. Starting early, we travel east through the Mpumalanga province to the Greater Kruger area. Kruger is South Africa’s premier national park and connecting with parks in adjoining Mozambique and Botswana, covers 24,000 square kilometres of land used in the protection of African wildlife! Over dinner we enjoy a Shangaan cultural evening including traditional dance. We enjoy a full day’s game viewing in the national park, seeking wildlife encounters with Africa’s ‘Big 5’ - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – as well as giraffe, hippo, zebra, various antelope and a variety of amazing birdlife and reptiles.
Day 3. Hazyview to Tsiphise
Winding our way across the mountainous countryside we make our way north to the resort of Tshipise. With a natural hot spring supplying the warm water, we can enjoy a relaxing swim in the heated pools.
Day 4. Tshipise to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Today we hop into the overland truck and cross into Zimbabwe via the bustling Beitbridge border post; the busiest of all South African land borders- you'll soon see why. After completing border formalities, we continue on to Zimbabwe's second city, Bulawayo, where we stop off in town before heading to our campsite in the Matopos area.
Day 5. Matobo National Park
This morning we head out to explore the lesser known, but totally rewarding, Matobo National Park. With both natural and historical highlights, the area is a valued site and a delight to explore. The opportunity for walking in the wild with an expert guide is also on the cards and we eagerly keep our eyes peeled in search of tracking wildlife on foot today.
Day 6. Bulawayo to Livingstone, Zambia
Heading toward Victoria Falls, we journey through the Zimbabwean countryside and make our way across the border to the town of Livingstone in Zambia. Here we'll spend our last night together.
Day 7. Livingstone
Explore the world renowned Victoria Falls, visit the David Livingstone Museum, or spend the day visiting the locals and learning about their history and culture, before your African overland adventure comes to an end.
