Summary

Living with Lions

Experience the South African wildlife. The big cats of South Africa are and have always been majestic predators. However, in our modern world they are no longer at the top of the food chain. They have fallen prey to human greed and superstition. Lions (including white lions), cheetahs, tigers and leopards are fighting to survive in their native country. They need our help and the assistance of dedicated volunteers to ensure their survival. The Big Cats programme tries to achieve exactly that.
By participating in this programme, you will be able to interact closely with the African big cats. Volunteers will take part in feeding the animals and also in preparing their habitats. Observe, help out and learn a lot about wild cats and their protection. Twice a week children from a local Orphanage will visit to see the cats and to learn a lot about the wildlife conservation. Volunteers will have the opportunity to get to know parts of the local community and teach them about the problems the lions and other animals have to face.
Another important part of this project is taking care of the horses on site. Not only will you be able to come into close contact with those animals, you will also ride them and experience a truly authentic and unforgettable way of exploring the local area.
Included in the programme are unique excursions every Thursday in order to offer the volunteers a well deserved break from the work at the project. This includes for example going on the Hartbeespoort mountain cable car ride, to witness one of the most awe inspiring views in the area, or going to the Lesedi Cultural Village, where people celebrate the traditions of multiple different peoples of South Africa.
Sine we receive volunteers from a lot of different countries, this project not only offers you an opportunity to work with and help Africa's most beloved and interesting animals, you will also get to meet various people from all over the world and form new friendships.
