Bahamas Marine Conservation
Join our Volunteer Marine Conservation project in The Bahamas and help create UNESCO protected marine parks, assist local communities and teach conservation awareness in primary schools. As part of the team you'll experience unforgettable diving, make a whole community of friends and help ensure that future generations will care for the reef and its long term survival!
Learn about marine ecosystems and conservation methods – You'll be trained by experienced scientists in how to complete underwater marine surveys and how to identify the many species of animals and coral you'll see including invasive species. You'll also learn how to monitor marine movements and how to locate breeding and feeding grounds.
Learn to dive/improve your skills – To complete your project work you will need to be a capable diver, so we will train you to PADI Advanced Open Water level, and then add in your Emergency First Response qualification for good measure too! And with the amount of diving you'll be doing, and the variety of dive sites in the Bahamas you'll leave a competent and experienced scuba diver with some amazing memories for your time in the Caribbean!
Help out at the local school – Once a week you'll come up for air and head to one of two local primary schools. Here you'll use your knowledge of marine conservation to teach the young children about the valuable marine life that surrounds their island and how to protect it in the future.
Have fun – No diving on Sunday mornings so Saturday nights are party night – usually involving fancy dress!! The group will either plan an event or cook a big meal and there's always plenty of time to relax, swim, sunbathe and get to know the local community
