Lifeguard Jobs- Camp in America
Every American summer camp that Wild Packs work with has a lake and/or swimming pools. They require confident and competent aquatics staff to teach swimming to the campers and work as lifeguards, ensuring the safety of the campers and staff when they are in and around the water.
Working in the aquatics gives you the opportunity to work in a large diverse team. You will train together (the vast majority of camps will put you through a lifeguard certification before the rest of the staff arrive) and work together on a day to day basis. There will be rotations between lifeguarding, swim coaching and working on the lake apparatus e.g. inflatables, canoes/kayak, boating etc.
Anyone considering a role in aquatics must be confident in their swimming abilities, be a qualified lifeguard or be capable of becoming one prior to the arrival of the campers. Life guarding is one of the most important jobs on camp. When you are sitting on that chair, standing at the water front or floating on a rescue board, you need to be completely focused on every person in the water.
One of the great things about working on the waterfront is that you'll have the opportunity to work with all of the kids on camp. When you're not working on the waterfront you will be getting involved with all the other aspects of camp life, meal times, evening activities, theme days etc. You'll be living with a group of campers and other counsellors, allowing yourself to get fully immersed into camp life!
Typical salaries start at $1500 for the duration of your contract. All food and accommodation is included, as is medical insurance. You are welcome to travel the States under the J1 visa, for 4 weeks before and/or after camp.
