Iberian Adventure

DAY 1: MADRID TO SEVILLE

Welcome to your Iberian Adventure! Today we head to Sevilla. Enroute we visit the picturesque town of Cordoba. Home to the Mezquita (Mosque).  You will be blown away with the impressive architecture and beautiful stonework. It’s red and white striped arches are famed throughout Spain. From here, it’s onto Seville. After check-in you have the opportunity to go on Connie & Alfonso’s Famous walking tour of Seville (Rick Steve’s personal Guide in his Andalucía documentary!) Your local guide will take you through the streets of Seville – from the cobblestoned streets of the Cathedral district through to the Santa Cruz area, providing entertaining information about Seville, its history and people. Early evening meet your guide on the roof top terrace. We will take you out for an optional tapas dinner before heading on to a few of the local bars. Party until the sun rises on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, where revelers take advantage of the outdoor bars lining the river banks.

DAY 2: SEVILLE TO LAGOS

Spend your morning checking out the city and grab a bite to eat before we head off to sun lovers’ heaven of Portugal, and the coastal, party town of Lagos! Lagos is a heavyweight among the fun-loving enthusiasts. It is the hub of nightlife in the Algarve region and its beaches rate among the best on the Iberian Peninsula. After check-in we'll be heading straight into the hustle and bustle of the old town.  We head to one of the best, but budget conscious restaurants in town, before heading out on pub hop. Many proclaim Lagos to be the party capital of the Algarve - tonight you make up your own mind as we’ll take you to two of the most famous pubs that make up this hedonistic part of Europe!

DAY 3: LAGOS

This morning will no doubt be a late start! Once all the stories from the night before have been told you have the day to explore Lagos at your own pace. Whether you choose to lie about on the fine sand of Praia de Batata, or meander through the streets of the old town (in a somewhat more sober state than the night before), Lagos will leave a lasting impression and is sure to leave you smiling. Feeling more active? Consider one of the activities offered in Lagos. If you’d like to learn to surf, why not hit the water and do a full-day surfing trip? A great afternoon activity is the much loved kayaking trip. This excursion will take you exploring Lagos’ inspiring caves and grotto’s, including a stop on a secluded beach for some swimming and sun. Tonight is a free night, so either head back to some of the bars, grab some dinner or relax. Whatever you choose, Lagos will leave a lasting impression and is sure to leave you smiling.

DAY 4: LAGOS TO TANGIER

It’s an early-ish start alas, but for very good reason! We’re heading down to the very southernmost tip of Europe and making our way along the Costa del Sol to Tarifa, a small Spanish town on the southernmost coast of the country. There’s time to check out this quaint town, before getting ready for the ferry onto Africa…yes, we are going to Morocco.Hop on a fast boat to Morocco for a guided tour around Tangier – not just a new country, but a new continent. It is only 14km away (don’t forget your passport)! The evening excursion includes the return fast ferry from Tarifa to Tangier, a Guided tour of the city, a local Berber pharmacy and a chance to test your bargaining skills with the local vendors!  Dinner is included and is a traditional Moroccan feast of four courses: try local soup, beef shish-kebab, chicken cous cous and a traditional Moroccan dessert, all washed down with mint tea (Vegetarian option available).Go to sleep in Morocco. You can now tick this box without feeling guilty

DAY 5: TANGIER TO GRANADA

After some breakfast in Morocco, we head onto Granada. We will arrive into Granada in the afternoon and after check-in we will have an orientation walk through the city. In the evening; we’ll take you to some of the best local tapas bars in town, Granada is a student town, so those with the stamina you’ll find plenty of opportunities for partying late!

DAY 6: GRANADA

You have the entire day to explore Granada at your leisure. Be sure not to miss the most famous Moorish relic and most visited sight in Spain – The Alhambra. Built towards the end of Moorish rule, The Alhambra (Moorish Palace) has about as much in common with Buckingham Palace as an apple does with a banana. Marvel at the intricate sculptures and relics carved into the walls (under Islam the artists were not allowed to depict the human form), while not forgetting to look up every so often at the intricately detailed ceiling work. Our optional tour includes entrance fees and a local guide; you also get to skip right past the massive queues that form here every day. This will certainly be one of the highlights of your trip!

If you’re a bit hot and bothered after the Alhambra, there’s always the chance of plunging into some Moroccan-style baths (Hammam). Jump in the cold, warm or hot pools, try the flavoured tea, or if you’re in real need of some relaxation, have an aromatherapy massage.
After your full day in Granada, join your guide and driver that evening and head to the Sacromonte Caves to see a live Flamenco show and maybe even learn some flamenco moves as well! .This is one show not to be missed. You will have the opportunity to see Flamenco performed by professional dancers – see the passion and intensity of this beautiful war dance. After the Flamenco show there is plenty of opportunities for partying into the night as Granada is a student town, so those with the stamina will find plenty of great bars!

DAY 7: GRANADA TO MADRID

It’s time to say farewell to Granada and head back to Madrid, although not without an amazing scenic stop along the route of Don Quixote – The Man from La Mancha! We will make a stop at Consuegra – where Don Quixote famously tilted at the windmills (he thought they were giants!) for a great photo opportunity, illustrating the twelve windmills and ruined castle overlooking the plains of La Mancha.

After Consuegra we head to the Imperial City of Toledo (World Heritage city). You have a couple of hours to lose yourself in the cobblestone streets and poke your head in the numerous stores filled with hand crafted steel swords & marzipan, and to check out Toledo’s famous Cathedral featuring significant art works by El Greco. From Toledo it’s just a short drive back to Madrid, where we should arrive back by around 7pm. That night you can join the group for a final night dinner so that you can reminisce about the great week that you have just experienced on the Iberian peninsula.
