South Africa Camping Adventure

Southern Africa is one of the continent’s most fascinating destinations, and on this two-week trip, you’ll get the best of what this dynamic region has to offer. Going from Cape Town to Johannesburg, you’ll experience the mountains of Lesotho, coastal Zululand and the hiking terrain of Tugela Gorge, while camping and shared dorms help keep costs down. Cap it off with game drives in Addo NP & Kruger NP before visiting rural Shalati, also home to our Planeterra New Hope project. Wildlife and warm feelings guaranteed.

Itinerary

Day 1Cape Town
Arrive at any time.

Day 2Cape Town/Oudtshoorn(1B, 1L, 1D)
Travel into the Klein Karoo area and enjoy a first night of camping. Opt to explore the Cango Caves or visit an ostrich farm.

Day 3Oudtshoorn/Tsitsikamma National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)
Cross over the Outeniqua Mountains and stop by the Knysna Heads for a view of the beautiful scenery. Enjoy free time to go hiking, bungee jumping, or whale watching. National park entrance fees are included.

Day 4Tsitsikamma National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)
Enjoy free time to go hiking, bungee jumping, or whale watching.

Day 5Tsitsikamma National Park/Addo Elephant National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)
Enjoy a game drive in a touring vehicle. Be on the watch for big elephants.

Day 6Addo Elephant National Park/Graaff-Reinet(1B, 1L, 1D)
Travel into the vast semi-desert of the great Karoo National Park and overnight in the town of Graaff-Reinet, just outside the Camdeboo National Park.

Day 7Graaff-Reinet/Malealea(1B, 1L, 1D)
Cross the border into the highest independent state in the world. Enjoy free time for hiking or horseback riding along trails through this beautiful mountainous country.

Day 8Malealea(1B, 1L, 1D)
Enjoy free time for hiking or horseback riding along trails through this beautiful mountainous country.

Day 9Malealea/Drakensville(1B, 1L, 1D)
Return to South Africa and set up camp at the foot of the mountains.

Day 10Drakensville(1B, 1L, 1D)
Set off on an included hike along Tugela Gorge in Royal Natal NP.

Day 11Drakensville/Saint Lucia(1B, 1L)
Travel to St Lucia near the coast of Zululand.

Day 12Saint Lucia(1B)
Enjoy a free day to explore. Opt to take a game drive in Umfolozi Game Reserve or go horseback riding on the beach.

Day 13Saint Lucia/Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary(1B, 1L, 1D)
Cross another border into Swaziland and camp in Milwane Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 14Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary/Kruger National Park(1B, 1L, 1D)
Continue on to Kruger NP for an afternoon game drive in a touring vehicle.

Day 15Kruger National Park/Manyeleti(1B, 1L, 1D)
Enjoy a full-day game drive before travelling to the village of Shalati. Experience a traditional Shangaan dinner and dance in the evening.

Day 16Manyeleti/Johannesburg(1B, 1L)
In the morning, visit Planeterra-supported Hope Africa Children's Day School. Afterwards, transfer to South Africa's capital, where the tour ends upon arrival. Book onward travel from 20:00 or later.
