Animal Rescue Volunteering in Amazon
This project is devoted to caring for animals affected by the black market animal trade in the Amazon jungle of Peru. The project takes in animals, often endangered, confiscated by the ecological police in city markets, airports and homes, often in terrible condition.
It is looking for volunteers to help out with the animal rescue program. Volunteers have the opportunity to work with unique Amazon species such as coati, capybara, ocelot, jaguar, and many species of monkeys. Volunteers are especially needed to help with animal enrichment programs. Volunteers also lead tours of the facility in English and any other languages spoken.
Volunteers can also assit in the butterfly house. Here, volunteers help to breed 25 species of butterflies from egg to butterfly, plus maintain the butterfly house and the associated host plants.
There is no cost to participate but volunteers are responsible for covering their own living expenses. Low-cost accommodation is available in a nearby village, only a five-minue walk away. Accommodation starts at £3 per day. Volunteers make a small one-off donation on arrival to cover operational costs (£30).
