Volunteer Work in Chile

In many Latin American countries the work of volunteers is an important factor to maintain and keep running social institutions and relief programmes. Even though Chile is a modern and prosperous country there is still a lot of poverty and social injustice and therefore there are always lots of projects volunteers can support.

In cooperation with different social institutions and non-profit organisations, we offer volunteer work projects throughout Chile. You can choose among different projects and find the one that suits you best. You will get an authentic cultural experience that mere tourists daren't even dream about.

The following projects of ours are always in need of motivated and hands-on volunteers:

1. Children’s home and kindergarten

As a volunteer you will support the staff/teachers with their daily tasks. This means taking care of the children, playing with them, helping them with their development, and/or doing handicrafts, reading, painting, etc… Volunteers in children’s homes should have a vocation for working with children, be patient, respectful and tolerant.

2. Horse therapy for disabled children

Most of the patients on this program suffer from brain paralysis, Down’s Syndrome, autism, visual disorders and other disabilities. As a volunteer you will be in charge of patient security on the horses, and support them during the therapy. They may also help the therapists with their daily work (massages, leading the horses, supporting the younger patients while they are on horseback, helping when they get on/off the horse, etc.)

3. Volunteer work with adolescents

Our volunteers on this program will work in children’s homes with children and adolescents at social risk; some have been in trouble with the law, some have been abandoned by their parents and some have been sent to the homes by court ruling. Volunteers will help with creating workshops, supporting and taking care of the children/adolescents and participating in athletic, cultural, and free time activities.

4. Rescue program for street dogs and cats

This volunteer programme was developed to help the dogs and cats that are abandoned on the streets and struggling to survive. One of the main tasks is to take care of the dogs and cats. Depending on the need, the volunteer may walk the dogs, stroke them, handle them in a caring way, brush them, feed them, and/or take them to the vet.

5. Volunteer work in environmental protection

The project’s aim is to educate children by establishing a connection with nature while teaching them a sense of responsibility in caring both for animals and the environment. Volunteer tasks may consist of: cultivating plants that are used for nutritional and medical purposes, planting, tending the vegetable garden and greenhouses, preparing and teaching lessons, supervising the children’s activities, helping with yoga and other outdoor sport disciplines, hiking, collecting garbage, etc.
