Volunteer with Children in Costa Rica
Assist the understaffed local schools in the town of Quepos with lessons as well as extra-curricular art workshops, sport programs and games. Take advantage of the myriad of activities that this diverse coastal region has to offer, including surfing, horseback riding, scuba diving and zip lining in your free time.
Travel to Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast to join this community project volunteering to help disadvantaged children. You will live and work in Quepos, a short bus ride from the famous Manuel Antonio National Park and beach, focusing on lending assistance to the local school district to make up for a shortage of teachers.
Volunteers will be placed in a local school, where you will spend your time planning and assisting in general education lessons for children and other community members; organising art workshops, games and sport activities. Volunteers will also be expected to assist with other community projects as needed
Costa Rica is a country rich in culture and physical beauty, both of which you will be able to experience first-hand while making a genuine positive difference. Opportunities exist for white water rafting, surfing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, surfing, rainforest canopy tours, diving or snorkelling and visiting idyllic tropical beaches and rainforests.
This programme provides you with an excellent opportunity to learn a new language and work with children at the same time. In the communities where our projects are based, you will be expected to make an effort to speak Spanish in order to communicate. Speak to your Country Expert about fully preparing you for life on the programme by adding on group/1-on-1 Spanish lessons to your programme cost. We also recommend that you start practising early in order to get the most out of your volunteering experience.
Please note, this programme offers durations up to 24 weeks. Speak to your Country Expert for more details of extending your stay in-country.
If you would prefer to stay in private accommodation while on this project, this location does offer upgrades. Contact us for more information, or mention to your Country Expert who will be able to assist you.
“The kids both within the school and the center can be a challenge to deal with, especially because of the language gap. However, the moments when you and the kids put effort into understanding each other and the concepts, a spark ignites. It is those moments that remind you why working with kids is so rewarding and memorable.”
