Eligibility and requirements
Visa options for India vary on nationality, mode of entry and the amount of time you are planning to spend in India.
If you are there for a month or less and are flying into one of the main airports (Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum and Varanasi), you can apply for an eVisa. This is the simplest and fastest option and doesn't require you to send your passport away or visit the embassy.
The downside of having this visa is that your stay will be limited to 30 days and the fact that you can only use this visa twice a year.
If you are planning to stay in India longer, entering India overland or want to travel there more than twice in a year, you'll need to apply for a tourist visa. This visa will be valid for 6 months from the date of issue, allows multiple entries and will let you stay in India for as long as the visa remains valid.
How long does it take?
Around 8 working days
Embassy processing time: 6 working days
Admin processing time: 2 working days
Postage time: once the visa is received, it will be emailed to you immediately in case of an eVisa or posted back to you with the next day guaranteed delivery service.
