Villa Maria Community & Expedition
Join our international team and take part in a South American gap trip that combines 5 weeks volunteering, supporting hundreds of children across several communities and 4 weeks of adrenaline filled adventure across the Andes!
As part of our gap team you’ll live and work in the heart of the shanty town of Villa Maria on the outskirts of Lima, supporting hundreds of young children in several communities, often left to fend for themselves. The volunteering phase of the trip takes place during the Peruvian summer holidays, whereby with parents working long hours for little pay, thousands of children are often left roaming the streets to occupy themselves. Here the possibility of these children falling into bad practices such as drugs, gangs and crime is a real and serious threat.
Therefore, alongside local project staff, the team will organise and carry out a programme of summer events (such as sports tournaments, fetes, swimming trips etc.) to ensure that the younger children of the community have a focus for their time and are less likely to be led astray.
Following the volunteer phase of the trip, you'll experience some of the most incredible landscapes that South America has to offer on a month long, mind-blowing expedition through Peru and Bolivia! Kayaking across the highest navigable lake in the world, sandboarding down the dunes of Huacachina, mountain biking through cloud forest, drifting through the pampas in a dug-out canoe and trekking through forgotten Andean valleys to the breathtaking Machu Picchu are just some of the activities you'll be doing!
Applications are now open for January 2017!
