You will be working in one of the largest hospitals in the exciting hustle and bustle of South Delhi. The hospital is spacious and organised and located on a stunning campus. This programme offers you the chance to gain incredible insight into the Indian medical system as you learn from some of the world's most adept doctor's and nurses.
Who does this programme suit?
This is the perfect opportunity for those studying medicine, nursing or physiotherapy to shadow professionals and enhance medical CVs. We are also more than happy to accept qualified medics who want a varied experience. You will initially be assigned to a specific nurse or doctor and work closely with them in their chosen department. You will be asked to choose 3-4 departments to create rotation, and work hours are typically 5 days a week. This experience will enable you will gain a real understanding of the Indian health care system and of the life as a medical professional as a whole.
You will need to be compassionate, hardworking and dedicated to your role as life as a medical practitioner can be fairly exhausting and at times stressful. The great thing is that you can combine your work experience with a full cultural immersion and enjoy the inspiring sites and colourful people of India.

We also offer an introductory language and cultural week in central Delhi. You will be able to learn some basic Hindi including helpful hospital related words and phrases. This programme is perfectly suited to those studying or qualified in a medical related course. Work experience is not essential, but a keen interest in pursuing a career in medicine is important.
You will be collected from the airport and taken to the comfortable volunteer house in Greater Kailash, South Delhi. In contrast to accommodation in many parts of Delhi, you will be provided with facilities such as hot showers, filtered water, WiFi, air-con, satellite television and western style toilets. Accommodation is close to the local shopping centres, ATMs, cafes and restaurants, and the hospital is a 25-30 minute walk, or short auto-rickshaw ride away.
Authenic Indian breakfasts and dinners are served each working day by you excellent volunteer house cook. There are plenty of places to eat locally for lunch and at the weekends.
