Volunteer Teaching & Trekking, Nepal

Discover the charms of Nepal
Nepal has always captured the Western imagination, with its majestic mountains, ancient temples and smiling people.  With this project you can make it your home, living and working alongside local people and getting to appreciate their gentle way of life.  We also arrange some inspiring expeditions to make the experience complete.

Your role as a volunteer
We have been sending volunteers to this area since 2001 and have solid links with small village communities near to Kathmandu.  We will arrange for you to work as a volunteer English teacher in a primary school.  It sounds daunting, but the children already speak basic English and are keen to learn more. They are used to very traditional teaching techniques, so you will be especially popular if you can make your lessons exciting with games, quizzes and activities.  We give you plenty of tips before departure and you’ll soon find yourself coming up with great ideas of your own.  Once you’re feeling confident you can offer to teach other subjects too.

Why not go further? Many of our volunteers decide to coach sports to the village children after school.  It’s a great way to get to know the children better and to have a few laughs.  You might even discover some new talent.

Live as a local
One of the special things about this project is that you’ll get full immersion into the Nepali culture, living with a host family who live by Nepali traditions.  They are incredibly hospitable and will love including you in family parties and local festivals.  By the end of your trip you will have made friends for life and will genuinely be able to say that you know a thing or two about real life in Nepal. You won't just be passing through as a back packer.

Expeditions included on our 12 and 16 week programme!
Nepal offers some of the most outstanding scenery on the planet and we don’t want you to miss it!  Our programme includes 3 memorable expeditions, at no extra cost.  You’ll trek in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas, go on an outstanding whitewater rafting trip and enjoy a safari through Chitwan National Park.  If that has whetted your appetite, come back another time and do a stand-alone Oyster trek.  We offer great value treks to destinations such as Everest and the Annapurna Sanctuary, available to anyone – not just our volunteers.
