Qualify and Teach Skiing in Whistler
Work hard, play hard!
Spend a season living and working in one of the world's top ski resorts - Whistler Blackcomb. We've been working with the ski school since 2004 and find people work with Whistler Kids each winter. Not a qualified ski instructor? No problem! We include a 4 week instructor course to get you qualified in-resort at the beginning of the season so that you can work for the rest of it.
Arrive in mid-November and begin your certified CSIA Level 1 course through the Whistler University Program. This involves 3 weeks of intensive training to prepare you for your Level 1 CSIA exams in week 4. This internationally recognized qualification will allow you to instruct in other countries, as well as Canada, and looks great on your CV. Once you have your qualification, you will be eligible for employment by Whistler Blackcomb as a Whistler Kids Ski Instructor. We arrange for our applicants to be pre-interviewed by a senior manager from Whistler Kids before you head to Canada. This means that you can start work on successful completion of your Level 1 course. Childcare jobs are also available for those who prefer to entertain the kids inside. You will need to be endlessly cheerful and to take a highly responsible attitude towards the children. In return you will get a good wage (approx $12 per hour) and fantastic work experience.
Whistler offer over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain and an average snowfall of over 10 metres. Need we say more? When you’ve exhausted yourself on the slopes you can find your Oyster friends or work colleagues in one of the many bars and restaurants nearby. Just make sure you’re up in time for work the next morning!
As part of our induction programme, we also include a ZipTrek tour - experience the thrill of being attached to ziplines between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains!
Our UK staff will work with you to make sure everything is in place for your trip, and will run a pre-departure course before you leave. Once in Canada you’ll have excellent support from our local rep, Tory, who will meet you at Vancouver Airport, put you up in a hostel for the first night, help you organise your paperwork and become a great friend to you throughout your time in Whistler.
You will live in staff housing on Blackcomb Mountain. We pay for the accommodation during the first 4 weeks (whilst you are on the course) and then the cost of accommodation comes straight from your pay cheque (approx $12 per night), when you start working.
To be eligible for this programme you need to be a confident skier and have really good childcare experience (babysitting alone is not enough!). The employers are looking for people who have worked with 3-11 year olds before, coaching a sport, volunteering at a nursery, being a teaching assistant or helping out at Beavers/Rainbows are all great ways to get this experience.
You need to also be eligible for the Canadian Working Holiday Program. There are a limited number of these released each year so we recommend getting in touch as soon as possible.
